A zinfun birthday

We had a great Feb. 12th, celebrating not only my birthday but Lincoln's and Darwin's as well. First stop, Wild Horse... and probably the favorite for the day. They are known for their pinot noirs - which I sometimes find too delicate, but Wild Horse pinots have a weight and complexity that make them oh so yum yum. We bought an expensive bottle there, and planned to open it on the date of our first bonus check - even it ends up being 50 cents. ;-)

Next stop was Peachy Canyon, known for their Zinfandels!! We sampled many, and also enjoyed the company of their 2 tasting room kittays, Peaches and Herb! Continuing the wild horse theme we bought one of their zins from Mustang Canyon. (just coincidental) It was determined that we had better eat some lunch after, and Peachy Canyon directed us to a winery just up the street that has a cafe. Unfortunately when we got there (a somewhat over the top tacky castle theme) their cafe was closed. We were roped into a tasting while there, but were pleasantly surprised with the wines. After Mario got caught posing with a knight in armor by an old car detail client, we found our way back into town for a delicious lunch at a little cafe called Piazzo. I opened some birthday cards and a little gift box (from Aunty Laineesha) while there, which was really nice. I felt like my friends and family were there with us!

We had really wanted to stop at Four Vines, but we were nearly out of time and I wanted to make sure we got to Opolo, so off we headed... It was a truly gorgeous drive through rolling green hills and oaks to Opolo, where we finished off the day with one yummy sip after another. We ended up staying late there, talking with other tasters who had come up for the day. One was a golfer in town on his way to the Pebble Beach tournament. ;-) I think Mario would have liked to follow him to PB...

All in all it was a very enjoyable day with beautiful views, good company and delicious wines. Next time we head up I am planning to stay in a B&B and visit some other Paso nommies.
