on the beach in St. John
July 31st is my cousin Rebecca's birthday! When I was little, I was envious because her birthday fell in the middle of the summer. In NJ, this meant she could have pool parties, or luai themed parties... whereas I, having a bday in the deep of winter, would sometimes have to wait until a thaw to even get to cash in on my birthday horseback ride at the local stables. For my sweet 16 I decided enough was enough - and I had a beach themed birthday party where everyone wore hawaiian shirts and shorts under their long coats, and my mom and Aunt Elaine served spiked (!) punch in the kitchen.
Anyway, this is about Rebecca - ! I love my beautiful, wild and funny cousin, and I cherish and hold tight to every fun and funny memory we've made together. I hope she knows how proud of her I am, how she took her dreams of being a teacher and being an artist and made them happen... and married talented and wonderful Richard and they created a life together in Brooklyn. Ugh - yeah, that part sucks. It could hardly be further away from me in California. Wait - this isn't about me, really! But honestly, there are a precious few things about my life that I would change - but proximity to my beloved family is surely one of them. If I could just go and sit around the kitchen table with her at Camp Pesce, drinking margaritas, laughing, and eating chips and shooting the shit... that would be heaven. And then nothing but carrot sticks the next day. And aspirgum.
Happiest of birthday wishes to you, Becka, I love and miss you very much!

I miss you and love you mucho grande. Sorry I only read your blog now! But a few things ...it's not "Camp Pesce" it's Club Pesce...very different conotation. 2nd...work with me, and maybe we can manage to bring club pesce's kitchen table west one of these days after we move there our selves! We'll talk about that on the sidelines. ;)
I was just thinking about your 16th birthday and shocked that yes, our moms did spike the punch! Ah!! Those crazy ladies! Richard and I decided we are going to trade birthdays one year so I can have a wintery one, and he can have a summer one. You guys should do that too...But wait, when is Mario's again?
It's so interesting about your job to me, I know nothing about it, but you write so well. When your company expands I can take the photos and organize them as a summer gig ok?
xoxoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxox
ps- so weird we were talking about moving etc on the phone the other night and here you wrote about it.
Lastly was that "the" best photo? ;)
Oops! I can't believe I said Camp Pesce. That's funny!
When my company expands?! Aghh! I am already overwhelmed! :-P
Mario's official bday is Dec 28th and unoffocial is March 10. (Mar10 - get it? Mario?)
YES ya little beotch, it was the best picture to depict the side of you I wanted to... playful, funny, a little impulsive, living life large! :-D Besides that from a purely aesthetic standpoint, you look thin, fit and tan. ;-> muah!
