A view of the blue moon on New Year's Eve from our front doorstep!
We had a nice quiet night to welcome in the new year. We didn't make it to midnight as I suspected, but we did have a really delicious Mario pizza, enjoyed a couple glasses of wine, and chatted a little on line with my cousins Alison and Rebecca.
To borrow from a fellow 2010 planner,
I'm starting the new year with an attitude of zeal, positivity
and forward thinking--and hunger. :)
Despite the fact that our marking of the passage of time is just a man-made invention, I find that I really love the concept of the new year. I like marking a new beginning, even if its just a new day like every day is a new day. It just makes me feel invigorated, and after taking stock of the successes and challenges of the previous time period, I like to feel I am striding out anew.
Mario and I are both committed to being decidedly healthier and more fit. This morning when he met Randy for golf, he handed him a large box filled with chocolates, cookies, fudge, etc. None of it was unopened! ha! The spirit of the handover was not of waste, but just that those things no longer fit into our goals. Today was day 1 of becoming healthier versions of ourselves, in all ways. :) Having a career that requires full physical ability in all ways (strength, health, flexibility, agility, etc.) I have come to really appreciate and value my body on a new level. The fact that my other passions, such as riding my horses, demands the same physical requirements, drives home a level of gratitude and respect for what I have and what I need to care for!
As part of/in addition to the above, my other goals or resolutions for the new year are:
- Begin lessons with Julie again
- Do pilates and/or yoga 3 x a week
- Ride 3x a week
- Regular chiro, accupuncture or massage
- a couple other more private resolutions ;)
The following photos I thought were a nice representation of how remarkable change is possible! They were taken only a few months apart, of hillsides in Moorpark near a place where I trim. First image is after the fires in the fall, the second was taken yesterday morning.
The next image is of Mario when he came home from golf this afternoon... he wasn't on the couch 10 minutes when he was dog/cat piled. :) That's Bogey on the left, Lynx on his chest, Angel on his lap and Bailey to the right.

This is a view of the famous "pink moment" on the Topatopa mountain range. I took it tonite at the barn before leaving, standing in the horse's corral. The Topas are unique in that they run east/west vs. north/south like most ranges, and that's why the setting sun creates the beautiful pink hue against the mountain. The "pink moment" at sunset is at once inspiring, peaceful and spiritual. . . a good way to feel starting a new decade.
